So, it seems as if I'm going to be in this house for a while, and my safe is out of room.
An option I've been exploring is going to a vault door setup and creating a dedicated vault. I have a room with the foundation on three sides of it, and a wall of what appears to be concrete blocks on the fourth side. I don't think it should be technically difficult to install the vault door (besides the sheer weight)
Now, the problem is the wood ceiling. The room above has a hardwood floor, and I'm guessing that's not the world's toughest material to break through. Is there any practical way to reinforce the ceiling so as to make it more secure? The only semi-practical suggestion I've seen is to just run rebar under it in an effort to make a chainsaw attack more difficult, but I don't know if this is really a sane option.
