1891 ARGENTINE MAUSER

So Im going this Sunday to check out a 1891 ARGENTINE MAUSER CONVERTED TO 308... I know it has to be one made in the first few years of production because of the handguard (guess that's the correct term)... Is there anything else i need to be looking for?
