tl;dr: Hello :)
-----
I had just created my account to be able to view attachments while lurking to get MD 2A (specifically CCW) news, but since I ended up making a post I figured I should go ahead and introduce myself.
I'm originally from Florida and exclusively spent time in other pro-gun states for all of my life until moving to Maryland, so it was a bit of a culture shock. But in the end, it was much cheaper to buy a house where I did than across the river in DC or N. VA. I would have had to get rid of most or probably all of my guns to move to DC, so that wasn't an option. I'm also much too libertarian to be able to stand Virginia on social issues... really I'm screwed as anywhere I move (with a few exceptions like NH) is going to piss me off on one of those issues or the other.
I plan to move down to the Atlanta area in a year or two, so that pendulum will swing back to the other side, but at least it's an enclave separated out from the rest of Georgia on social issues and local gun laws are pre-empted by the state, so it's the best I'll be able to do while keeping my snow shoveling down to once every few years (and probably more snow sweeping at that).
The reasons I didn't get involved or pay much attention when I first moved to the DMV are 1) I was in VA at the time and technically still had my CCW rights and 2) I worked in DC and lived close enough to DC and MD that wrong turns, momentary lapses in thought, and closed freeway exits could all make me an accidental felon (or, in the case of MD, convicted of a gun-related misdemeanor with a felony sentence). For that reason, I didn't carry when I was in VA and I ended up letting my Florida CCW permanently lapse (>6 months after expiration. I'm rectifying that currently; luckily they keep old license records and allow my previous proof of training to apply to this new application).
For quite a bit after moving to MD, I still worked in DC, so again a CCW wouldn't have done me as much good as otherwise. Now I live and work completely in MD. One of my two commuting routes goes through DC, but it only saves a few minutes, so the other route works well enough. But, sadly, I don't carry lots of cash (or generally any), so I'm stuck without the ability to carry. At least for now.
Despite the name (I'm really not the creative type), I love all guns, but my Sigs are my favorites in my current collection. I currently carry my Sig P938 when I'm at the house to pretend that I'm a real citizen.
