First reloads to the range, need help

samedi 21 mars 2015

Went to the range this morning with my first box of 45 ACP and 9mm Luger reloads. Each test batch consisted of 5 each loaded in 0.1 grain increments from start charge to never exceed charge according to the Lee manual, using IMR 800X powder.

Loaded up the 45, testing in a Springfield XD compact. All fired fine, ejected fine, no signs of overpressure.

Loaded the 9MM in my Beretta PX4 Storm compact, every single round fired but failed to fully cycle the firearm and eject the cartridge. Some stove piped, some left the shell in battery.

No signs of overpressure. I did notice that the 9mm casings all had a carbon discoloration on approximately 1/3 the casing perimeter. When I loaded the 9MM I used a Lyman cartridge gage, all popped in and out easily, and all were the proper length.

The only think is can think of is either the powder is inappropriate for the cartridge ( in which case it shouldn't have been listed in both the IMR web site and the Lee book?) or perhaps I had the factory crimp die set too tight and it allowed gases to partially escape between the casing and the barrel? What am I missing?
