Hi Guys,
All my .22-250's so far have had a pokey 1:14" twist. I bought 2 of the 3 varmiters I have owned before I started reloading, and while I've had good success with them, I'd like to try one with a tube that spins a bit faster. I'm currently looking at the Savage Model 12 Low profile, offered in 1:9" and 1:12" twist rates (26" tube). I plan on using the rifle in open fields for predator/groundhog duty. Shots could range out 300 - 500 yds.
Can you guys weigh in on the major advantages/disadvantages of a 1:9" versus a 1:12" twist from a re-loaders perspective? Is the former really necessary for my application?
Thanks!
