Whitney Wolverine - current market price?

samedi 28 février 2015

I saw a Whitney Wolverine on consignment for $350.00 earlier today. I'll have to review it again, but I believe to to be an original.

Is this a fair price? How is it as a shooter?

Another German .25 pocket pistol made in Suhl

I am addicted to these German pocket pistols that were made in Suhl Germany in the 20's and 30's. This is a Zehna .25

This one is factory nickle plated which I have never seen and has a holster and xtra mag for under 400 - not a bad deal in my opinion.

Wicked Edge sharpening system

sometimes i get bored and sharpen knives to the point where they can pop hairs out of the follicle by simply touching the blade to them, or push cut paper in any direction, and you can see your reflection in the edge. if you wanna trade ammo or something for me to sharpen your blade with my Wicked Edge, hit me up. i can repair dull serrations, broken tips (to an extent), and reprofile a completely abused and beat up knife to be shave sharp.

Scope and Mount for AR

Hey guys,

Do you all have any recommendations for a scope and mount for an AR Carbine? I was looking at the Nikon 223 Carbine scope but not sure if 3x is enough for target shooting further out. Also, what mount do you all like for this set up? I just need one that's tall enough to see over the front sight.

Thanks!

Subsonic with 10.5 9mm AR

I'm currently building a suppressed 9mm SBR. Because of the laws I'm going with a 10.5 inch barrel. I'd prefer a 5 inch barrel, but oh well. Do factory 147gr stay subsonic most of the time? I reload 9mm, but I like to supplement with factory ammo from time to time.

AAR: Shooting Under Pressure, FreeState Gun Range, 2/28/15

This is my first AAR of 2015, with at least 3 to follow through the year.

The class was "Shooting Under Pressure", taught by two of the training cadre at FreeState Gun Range in Middle River. The class ran from 8:00-11:30 AM. There were 9 students and two instructors, and the entire class took place in the back warehouse area of FreeState. I am not affiliated with FreeState in any way except as a paying customer. Cost of the class was $89.99 via an email discount offer that said it's regular price was $125.

This was a fun little class. I will admit that, with so many firearms classes under my belt, I took this class primarily so that I would be certified by FreeState to be able to practice draw and fire at their range. I figured for $90 it would be worth it, and anything else I got out of the class would be a bonus.

The 9 total students (8 men, 1 woman) clearly had a mix of abilities and experience levels, including at least one security guard and one or two police and a few ex-military. The instructors (and I) were happy this didn't seem to be anyone's first experience handling a handgun, but this seemed to be the first training class for at least a few of the students. Some showed up without magazine pouches, spare magazines, etc.

This course included no live fire. Instead, we did everything dry or with SIMS guns. We started with the usual safety brief and range rules and made sure no one had a loaded firearm. We then got in a line and the instructors did a great job taking turns explaining different concepts about the draw to us. I was happy that we weren't limited to outside the waistband holsters and 3:00 carry like a lot of basic classes, since I prefer to, whenever possible, "train like I fight", which for me means inside the waistband appendix carry.

We were instructed in the four count draw stroke and practiced it dry from our uncovered holster and then, a surprise to me, got to do it from concealment as well. Other elements were introduced as well, such as scanning and assessing, the Sul position, and checking one's six. Reholstering, I was happy to see, included a visual check to be sure the holster was clear of any obstructions before holstering. We were also instructed in performing a sidestep on the draw, and I was happy to see this movement incorporated in the curriculum. We also covered how to switch hands and shoot weak handed. It was obvious that most students in the class had never tried this before.

We took a break and then came back in to do the SIMS portion of the class. We weren't shooting each other, just the targets. We were introduced to movement while firing and how to properly utilize cover in a firefight. There were a variety of targets and barrels and other items for us to use as cover, and we got to practice strong and weak hand shooting around cover through a variety of drills that we did one at a time. This was great because we got to learn from each other's mistakes.

I was happy to see that my classmates shot pretty well with the SIMS guns, so at least most had their marksmanship at a decent level (I doubt we shot more than from about 30 feet away from targets, and most were much closer). Some made more glaring "tactical" errors than others (I made a few myself....Not tooting my own horn here), and for some, mobility seemed to be hindered by bad knees, being overweight, etc. (EDITORIAL COMMENT: ever seen bad guys working out in jail? Those same dudes are on the street. The gun you have or carry is only part of the solution. Get yourself in shape!).

My best moment came during and after the box drill, where we shot at multiple targets while moving in a box shape around the room. An instructor complimented me and asked who I've trained with, so I told him Paul Howe, Mike Pannone, Steve Fisher, and he just nodded and said, "it shows". :)

The one thing we were supposed to cover but didn't have time for were reloads and malfunctions, but to their credit, the instructors told us to stop by on a slow day and they'd be happy to teach us one on one. Good stuff.

The course included a packet of handouts on what was covered in class, which help reinforce all we covered in class and gave things for the students to practice at home or the range. We went over out takeaways in a roundtable at the end, and it looked like everyone had plenty and also some food for thought. Collectively, it was clear no one left as Rambo, but rather realizing we had only scratched the surface.

Overall, I thought this was a really good class. I think this would be a great class for someone who is maybe right off the heels of the NRA basic pistol class who wants to get his or her feet wet in more of a "combat handgun" training environment. The facility was great, if cold, and the instructors were courteous and clear in their instructions.

This was $90 well-spent by me. We covered a lot more than just drawing and firing (which was all I was expecting, really), and I hope this class pushes the students who were in the class to seek out more training.

-H

Southern Maryland AK Build Party - Part 4

I will be hosting an AK Build Party in April. The only two Saturdays that I can host it will be April 18 or 25. Respond to the survey above to let me know which Saturday that you can attend.

I will allow my AK47 1.0 and 1.5mm flat bending jigs to be used to make new receivers from flats at a build party if the following conditions are met:

1. You have an approved Form 1 for an AK based SBR or;

2. You have a rear pistol trunnion in-hand and;

3. After you bend that flat, the pistol trunnion is riveted to that flat before you leave the build party.

This is the only way that I would feel comfortable letting someone use my flat bending jigs to make a new AK receiver.

See you there!

Cowboy up

Got in trouble again by walking into 2A Sales. I'd been looking for a lever action rifle in .357 Mag, and they are like hen's teeth to find. So I stop by to see Mark at the shop a couple of weeks ago, tell him of my troubles and he says "Oh, I have 2 of them here... Winchesters..." They were so beautiful and I was short on time, so I plotted my return...

So, today I went to "get my oil changed" with my 2 young boys in tote, and when I was done I just happened to drive back towards 2A and walked in to "browse."

Result, I left home with 2 children and came back with 3:

Winchester 1892 S in .357 Magnum, 20" Barrel.

He also showed me some sweet, sweet HK NFA stuff. It's fun just to hold it (that's what she said too). :)

Thanks to Mark and the rest of the guys.

To cold to cast

Well it's been too damn cold for me to cast any bullets and I recently ran out of my 158 grain pills. So yesterday I was at my West Virginia honey hole and he had some 158 grain SWC's from Missouri bullet company and I seized the opportunity and grabbed a box of 500.

Does anybody have any first hand knowledge of their products? I'm just using these in a few 38 specials as plinking loads for my wife and daughter so I figure they'll work for some paper punching loads. 3.4 grains of Titegroup 1.475 COAL

New Tok Issues

Took my Romanian Tokarev out to the range this morning for the first time. Each time I fired, the slide would lock open as if it was recognizing an empty magazine. I have two different mags and had the same issue with both. I was shooting PPU FMJ. AS I don't know much about this firearm, wanted to check in here first as I'm sure it's probably a simple (or possible ignorance) issue.

Family Membership

Question in regards to the Family Membership badge. Do kids have to be members of a club, or is that not a requirement for this type of badge? Currently when I go to the range, I have to let each kid shoot one at a time since I can only have one lane with my badge. If I get each kid a badge, then they could both shoot at the same time. Thanks in advance.

Got a new FN SLP Mark 1 Tactical yesterday

I picked up my new to me FN Tactical shotgun yesterday. It is unfired, and has the "skeet" piston in it. I've heard that the break in should be 15 rounds of buckshot then it will shoot low-brass shells with no problem. This is from several 3-gun sights. Just checking with the folks here, is this the case? Can I use high-brass bird shot, like Remington Express, instead of buck shot? Will I finally finish a 3-gun stage without having a problem with my shotgun?

AR 1-piece trigger and floorless lower

Just curious, do the 1-pc trigger kits only depend on the lower pins and not the lower floor of the pocket for spring support like a 2-pc?

Say I had a paperweight that had its floor removed by mistake. Would it be salvageable with a 1-pc? I know it wouldn't be sealed well to the elements so would be a range queen, but if it remains usable it would be a plus.

Proud Dad/Static concern

Good evening everyone. Sorry but I have to tell you the whole story before I get to the static part because I'm a proud dad right now. A year ago my two little girls aged 4 and 3 saw me looking at a Hornady reloading manual. They asked me what that was on the front (the cartridge separated). I pointed to each thing and told them what it was and then told them when its all together it is called a cartridge. Never thought about it anymore til an hour later they brought the book to me and pointed to each part and named them correctly. I was impressed! A year later and they are still doing it. Tonight I go to the basement to size some 223 brass on the old Rock Chucker 2 and the now 5 year old comes down to investigate. She decides she wanted to help so I put a pair of safety glasses on her, she climbed in my lap and watched me do a couple. She wanted to try so I let her...darned if she didn't do every step just as I did (she did need help aligning the case in the shell holder on the first one but after that she was good). She would roll the case on the lube pad, rub the case neck with her little fingers, and put it in the press and pull the lever. When she would pull the case off the press, she'd look to see that the primer was out and say "Looks good":) She ended up doing 51 of them!

OK the static part...I have all of my brass stored in empty 1lb plastic protein containers. When I picked one up to get brass out to resize, there was so much static from the jug that my hair stood straight out on my legs lol (I had shorts on...I don't reload in my underwear...yet lol) What should I do...get different containers? Sorry so long...just had to tell about my lil one.

Sorry if this has been asked but search wasn't working on the mobile site.

If I purchase a lower it is considered regulated and I must wait my 7 days. But am I then able to purchase any lower as long as it is more than 16 inches. Or will I still be required to be am hbar/bull. If it must be an hbar can it be fluted.

I already have an hbar but the balance seems too don't heavy and if like a pencil barrel for quick movement.

Greetings from Columbia

I have been reading threads on this site for a few months and decided to become more interactive. I've been living in Howard County for five years now. I am new to gun collecting, but not new to guns. I am prior Air Force and a former paramedic. I've had the pleasure of purchasing some nice firearms from 2A Sales, Engage Armament, and others. I've met some great people in this community and I'm happy to have joined the fight to preserve our rights.

Canted Front Sight on AR upper

I have a used Surplus Upper. I have to adjust the rear sight all the way left and its still about 4" right @ 50 yards. I noticed the Front sight assembly is canted to the left. The left front sight guard (sides that stick up left and right of sight post to protect it) is dented so I know this thing was dropped at some point. Can a front sight be canted and the issue be the front sight itself and how its on the barrel, or would it be the barrel mounted into the upper?

Can I just remove the pins for the front sight and reinsert after straitening it?

OK, I have to ask the simple question: Is it a bad idea to clamp the barrel in a block of wood (cut with a channel to hold the barrel) and vise and wack the front sight back into position?

Canted Front Sight on AR upper

AR15 reloads

OK, I'm working up some 223 loads for an AR15

I started with a 55g jacketed projectile (Sierra) cause I have a box of 500 coming from Xtreme soon. Not looking for stellar accuracy but if I can beat commercial typical ammo, I'll be happy. My books on H335 show different start and max loads.

Right now I am using a Carbine with 14.5" barel (16 1/4" with Welded Flash Hider of course) and 1/7 twist.

I have another upper that is 16" and 1/9 twist which will be the main one I work up loads for.

My question is this. Not sure I was trusting my chrono today.

Here are the average velocities I got:

(factory ammo and some previous loads)

Tulamo 55g 2690fps

Winchester 62g 2700fps

25g IMR4895 53g HPBT 2690fps (load I worked up for my dad's AR)

(new reloads)

H335, 55g Jacketed

22.0g 2250fps

22.5g 2260fps

23.0g 2280fps

23.5g 2428fps

24.0g 2510fps

24.5g 2650fps

Varget 69g matchking

23.0g 2220fps

(chrono was erratic for loads between 23.5 and 24.0)

24.5g 2620fps

I was shooting 50 yards with iron sights so I was not really testing the accuracy. I wanted to get ball park velocities before I worked up loads again. I only shot 3 per weight range. One thing I noticed was my first 3 of the 69g match kings even at that low velocity were almost touching. I was not expecting that with that upper I was using.

So the big question I have is the 100fps jumps with 0.5grains of H335, is that expected/typical?

Trying to locate a 1903 USMC rebuild

I figure I'd try a local site. Has anyone seen a 1903 USMC rebuild in any of the gun shops here in MD or close to?

Trying to find the green parkerizing finish, blackish serialized bolt, unmarked stock, stippled buttplate, vice marks on the barrel and a hatcher hole?

Anyone seen one here locally?

They're crude but gorgeous at the same time.

7.62x51 in a .308

So I am sure this has been talked about before but I couldn't find any threads directly talking about this issue.

Most everyone seems to say a 7.62x51 can be shot out of a .308 without a problem but not the other way around.

I recently purchased a Savage Axis in .308 and called their customer service to confirm if shooting a 7.62 would be acceptable. The woman from their customer service department expressed it absolutely could not be done. (quite rudely I might add). She expressed the pressure was higher on the 7.62 and could be disastrous... now even I (who's only a novice) know that is incorrect and the 7.62 has less pressure then the .308.

So since Savage's customer service failed to give me confidence that it is ok to shoot the cheaper NATO round out of my gun, I am turning to all of you.

Does anyone have experience shooting the 7.62 out of the Savage Axis first hand? Any light someone can shed on this debate?

Hello all. Finally getting around to introducing myself. Been watching the treads here for a while now. Im hoping as most of probably are that Maryland becomes more gun friendly. Good to see the amount of people here that feel the same way. Ive have guns all my life and was taught how to treat weapons and how to shoot at a young age.

Hello,

This is my first handgun. So I don't really have a benchmark. I don't think its normal, and if i send it back to sig i have to wait 2-3 weeks to get it back.:mad54:

I have an issue where when I'm holding my sig my pinky rests on the lip of the magazine. When the slide moves forward, when firing or chambering, the magazine drops out with the pressure of my pinky.

If anyone after watching has seen this or knows the fix with out sig, please let me know.

Benefit of ZDP189/420J Laminate?

Why create a knife blade with 420J steel on the outside and ZDP189 on the inside (well - the cutting edge is ZDP189)? Why not just use ZDP189? Also - is ZDP-189 more prone to chipping? I ask since I really like the Spyderco Caly 3 but am leery of the blade steel.

Any thoughts?

Fly Fishing rod and reel Question?

I have a fly fishing equipment qustion. I have still new to fly fishing, I have been fly fishing for two years, and am using a white river combo set, i got from bass pro for like 90 dollars or something. Its a good rod and reel, or i just do not know any better. So I want ot get a new rod this spring, and I dont want to go over 100 dollars for the set up.

How good are 40 dollars fly reel off of ebay? Any body ever buy "cheaper" priced fly rods( no reel) from walmart? Can I get a saltwater fly reel and use it at the local stream with the same performance of a non salt water fly reel in fresh water? If you guys have input on a fly rod set up for under 100 bucks please let me know, thanks?

HBAR build.

So I'm moving back into MD from PA, and while I was in PA, I bought a stripped AR lower with intentions to build a new rifle. However, I never finished the build and only completed the lower. From what I've learned, I can't build a normal AR with this lower as a resident of MD. The two options I have would be to either build an HBAR or an AR pistol. Personally I would rather have a regular rifle, so HBAR is the closest match. I've heard that an HBAR has to have a fixed stock, can anyone confirm if this is true? also, this is the upper I was looking at going with. has anyone had experience with this brand upper?

Obama bans bullets by EO

http://ift.tt/1LMD9Pw

As promised, President Obama is using executive actions to impose gun control on the nation, targeting the top-selling rifle in the country, the AR-15 style semi-automatic, with a ban on one of the most-used AR bullets by sportsmen and target shooters.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this month revealed that it is proposing to put the ban on 5.56 mm ammo on a fast track, immediately driving up the price of the bullets and prompting retailers, including the huge outdoors company Cabela’s, to urge sportsmen to urge Congress to stop the president.

Quote:

At issue is so-called “armor-piercing” ammunition, an exemption for those bullets mostly used for sport by AR-15 owners, and the recent popularity of pistol-style ARs that use the ammo.

The inexpensive 5.56 M885 ammo, commonly called green tips, have been exempt for years, as have higher-caliber ammunition that also easily pierces the type of soft armor worn by police, because it’s mostly used by target shooters, not criminals. The agency proposes to reclassify it as armor-piercing and not exempt.

My Thoughts on a pair of Glock Ghost Inc connectors.

So a few weeks ago I picked up a used LE trade in Gen3 19 from Lou at Shooters Discount and began researching parts and common upgrades for it. I started with the $.25 trigger job and I guess my particular pistol was well seasoned and it didn't really do anything to the action of the trigger. I then started looking at connectors, particularly the Ghost Inc Tactical 5lb and Evo Elite 3.5lb ones. The concept of the TCT over travel stop had me intrigued. I'm not much of a trigger snob where I need a 2.5lb match trigger, I would be happy with a 6lb trigger pull as long as it was smooth as a baby's bottom. Other parts I did at the same time as the connector install were an Apex Tactical Glock Ultimate Safety Plunger that I high polished, and the Ghost 6lb trigger return spring and reduced power safety plunger spring along with doing a full detail strip and clean.

After fitting the Ghost Tactical 5lb connector it feels much like a stock trigger with a slightly crisper trigger break, no trigger over-travel, and short tactile reset. It's worth the $20 price just for the TCT tab which when fitted correctly virtually eliminates the trigger over travel once the shot breaks. I ended up with a ~5.75-6lb trigger pull with this setup.

The Ghost Evo Elite 3.5lb connector changes the feel of the trigger dramatically. The stock and Tactical connectors have what feels like a "staged" trigger take up to them from where the trigger bar contacts the safety plunger, and the striker, then right before the trigger breaks you hit a hard wall. With the Evo Elite connector you don't get the "staged" trigger take up, nor a hard wall before the trigger breaks. It has a slightly shorter take up and has a smooth trigger pull all the way to where the striker drops, then you get an ever so slightly longer but even more tactile reset than stock or Tactical connector have. I have a theory that lighter weight connectors have an lighter pull weight at the expense of a mushier and longer trigger break and reset. Heavier connectors are the opposite having a heavier pull weight but cripser and shorter break and reset. The Evo Elite has a smooth trigger pull all the way back so it's harder to feel the longer trigger break, but the slightly longer reset is easily felt. This setup ended up having ~4.25-4.5lb trigger pull.

In the end I really like the way the Evo Elite feels, it completely changes the way the Glock triggers feel since it gets rid of the "stages" in the pretravel take up giving you a smooth and even trigger pull. It's going to stay in this 19 for the foreseeable future.

My Thoughts on a pair of Glock Ghost Inc connectors.

OK,

So we've been in MD for about 10 years. ENOUGH!!! Unfortunately, we live in PG county (one of the only "decent" parts of it at least) and the wife and I teach here, and my kids (8 and 5) go to the school I teach in. We've been meaning to move but then the economy took a dump. Our plan was to move to the Manassas area so that we could still commute to our jobs in Oxon Hill, and then eventually try to find jobs in the area. At this point, I think we need to try to make it happen ASAP. SO that brings me to a few questions....

We're looking in Prince William county. We don't want a townhouse, we want at least 2000 sq. ft., and we want something that resembles a yard.....that eliminates anything Fairfax county, and that's FINE by me. That being said, when I look at Realtor.com and Zillow, I see a LOT more homes in Woodbridge for sale than any other place. Is Woodbridge a big FSA conclave or something? We've lived with enough of that here.

Granted, the schools just about anywhere will be better than where we are now (and our kids are at the "cream of the crap" schools in PG), but how are they in Prince Willie? Any better areas? How is Manassas? Triangle? Dumfries? Any good "stable" parts of Woodbridge?

We're looking in the $350K MAX ballpark

Obama to ban bullets by executive action, threatens top-selling AR-15 rifle

**This is SIMILAR to another thread but not the same BTW***

http://ift.tt/1LMD9Pw

It’s starting.

As promised, President Obama is using executive actions to impose gun control on the nation, targeting the top-selling rifle in the country, the AR-15 style semi-automatic, with a ban on one of the most-used AR bullets by sportsmen and target shooters.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this month revealed that it is proposing to put the ban on 5.56mm ammo on a fast track, immediately driving up the price of the bullets and prompting retailers, including the huge outdoors company Cabela’s, to urge sportsmen to urge Congress to stop the president.

Wednesday night, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, stepped in with a critical letter to the bureau demanding it explain the surprise and abrupt bullet ban. The letter is shown below.

The National Rifle Association, which is working with Goodlatte to gather co-signers, told Secrets that 30 House members have already co-signed the letter and Goodlatte and the NRA are hoping to get a total of 100 fast.

"The Obama administration was unable to ban America's most popular sporting rifle through the legislative process, so now it's trying to ban commonly owned and used ammunition through regulation," said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA-ILA, the group's policy and lobby shop. "The NRA and our tens of millions of supporters across the country will fight to stop President Obama's latest attack on our Second Amendment freedoms."

At issue is so-called “armor-piercing” ammunition, an exemption for those bullets mostly used for sport by AR-15 owners, and the recent popularity of pistol-style ARs that use the ammo.

The inexpensive 5.56 M885 ammo, commonly called green tips, have been exempt for years, as have higher caliber ammunition that also easily pierces the type of soft armor worn by police, because it’s mostly used by target shooters, not criminals.

RELATED: Colorado politician who survived Columbine wants concealed carry in schools

But now BATFE says that since the bullets can be used in semi-automatic handguns they pose a threat to police and must be banned from production, sale and use. But, as Goodlatte noted, offered no proof. Federal agencies will still be allowed to buy the ammo.

“This round is amongst the most commonly used in the most popular rifle design in America, the AR-15. Millions upon millions of M855 rounds have been sold and used in the U.S., yet ATF has not even alleged — much less offered evidence — that even one such round has ever been fired from a handgun at a police officer,” said Goodlatte’s letter.

Even some police don’t buy the administration’s claim. “Criminals aren't going to go out and buy a $1,000 AR pistol,” Brent Ball, owner of 417 Guns in Springfield, Mo., and a 17-year veteran police officer told the Springfield News-Leader. “As a police officer I'm not worried about AR pistols because you can see them. It's the small gun in a guy's hand you can't see that kills you.”

Many see the bullet ban as an assault on the AR-15 and Obama’s back-door bid to end production and sale.

“We are concerned,” said Justin Anderson with Hyatt Gun Shop in Charlotte, N.C., one of the nation’s top sellers of AR-15 style rifles. “Frankly, we're always concerned when the government uses back-door methods to impose quasi-gun control.”

Groups like the National Shooting Sports Foundation suggest that under BATFE’s new rule, other calibers like popular deer hunting .308 bullets could be banned because they also are used in AR-15s, some of which can be turned into pistol-style guns. “This will have a detrimental effect on hunting nationwide,” said the group.

WTB: single stage press

Looking to get into reloading for 308WIN (for a bolt rifle only) and would like to keep it as inexpensive as possible as this is just a project/hobby (for now). If you have moved on from single stage to progressive and have the single stage laying around collecting dust, I'd like to buy it and put it to use.

Thanks

Saturday AR15 Armorers Course Demand?

I need to know if there is serious interest for a Saturday AR15 Armorers Course.

The class would be $275.00 but I offer up to $100.00 in combined discounts for NRA, MSI, MDShooters Donations, and MIL/LE Service.

I honestly wish I could make the course more affordable but I just cant with the amount of overhead I expended from my own pocket to make this class a reality. Even after my Friday Evening Class and the possibility of booking this class with 20 students, I will still be in the red when all of my expenses are tallied.

I HAVE to host it in Glen Burnie, MD, and the Class would run between 9 A.M. and 5 P.M. I was in discussion with a few very generous MDS members but my work schedule and the costs make it not possible for me.

The soonest I could run a saturday class due to my work schedule and an open slot for my host site is Saturday 5/9. If you are seriously interested please post here.

Class is payable UP FRONT and is CHECK/MONEY ORDER ONLY!

Class details can be found here:Click HERE for the class details.

Looking for a rental cz97 in md

On a business trip in Grand Rapids Michigan I stopped at a LGS and ended up holding the new cz97b. (I say new because it has the aluminum grips which I hear are an update). It felt awesome and I'm interested in buying one. I'd prefer to shoot one first however. Does anyone know of a rental range in central maryland that has one available?

Ps, also held the cz Rami, it also left me impressed. Unfortunately this is maryland so I have no use for a CCW

Wisconsin may drop their handgun waiting period!

We need to use this rationale. The "instant" part of NICS should be sufficient... ESPECIALLY if all the desired information is submitted.

What part of "law-abiding gun owner" is escaping them??

If they're trying to be too clever by half, then they failed miserably.

And if they are that stupid, then I wish them mercy.

Hello from Silver Spring/Aspen Hill area

mercredi 25 février 2015

Hello everyone, new to the handgun world. Just recently finished my HQL class and fingerprinting and now just waiting on the snail pace process of Maryland to grant me my HQL. Any suggestions on ranges around here? I have been to Gilbert's and wasn't a big fan due to many reasons. Looking to find somewhere to shot when I get my 9mm. Glad to be a part of the group.

Left Hand PSE Bow Madness For Sale

Bought this bow new and then messed up my shoulder pretty good. Have probably put about 12 arrows through it before injury and never tried to draw it again since I lost a lot of strength in my shoulder. If anyone is interested PM me and I can send photos etc. Bow comes with hard and soft case and all accessories even an unopened box of carbon arrows.

Figured it would be better to post here than in classifieds since most of that revolves around firearms.

Gun Rights Haters: Victims or Aggressors?

Gun Rights Haters: Victims or Aggressors?

Now these perpetual “victims” want to learn about “Powerfully Peaceful Action in the Face of Armed and Aggressive Opposition”. Why do they say they need to do this? Because, according to them, “Almost every group in the gun sense movement has – at some time in the last several years – been confronted by armed and/or aggressive counter demonstrators at one of our public actions.” Though as you can see at the link above no examples of any aggressive behavior towards them are given. Of course, we often counter-demonstrate their events armed but that's not aggression as the zero body count and zero hospitalization rate among attendees show. If being around guns frightens them there is a name for that, hoplophobia. Perhaps a psychiatrist would be more helpful to them than a workshop.

M4 Bayonet Help

Greetings all,

A friend gave me a M4 bayonet and boy is it in bad shape. The leather is nasty and the handle is very rusty. I can barely make out M4, I can't read the maker. It has the starburst pommel stake. Is there a way to disassemble this bayonet to replace the leather? If not I'll just file it away and get one in better condition. Thanks for any input.

Mosin Nagant (M91, Finnish Models, and 91/30 Sniper)

I'm looking for a 91/30 Sniper rifle. I would prefer a PU scope model, maker doesn't matter. I'd be more inclined to pickup a refurb instead of a more expensive all original model. Something similar to what AIM was selling recently.

I'd also be interested in finding early Imperial Russian M91 Mosins, as well as Finnish M28, M28-30, or M39 models as well.

Finally, while it's not in the title, I'd also like to find an Ishapore 2A or 2A1 Lee Enfield or a .410 Ishapore.

I'm interested in cash or trade.

fiber optic front sight replacement

I recently lost the fiber optic front sight insert in my Springfield XDm.

Springfield was kind enough to send replacements (enough material for 6 sights in 2 different colors).

Any suggestions on how to affix this to the sight? It fits but slides easily.

I'm thinking that I could enlarge the front end with a hot blade and put a spot of glue on the contact points or I could enlarge both ends with a hot blade.

Any recommendations?

when submitting an eform.....

I'm scanning my trust into my computer now and I'm going to apply for an SBR through the efile for a form1.

On my trust (i went through 199trust) it has a section for assignment to the Trust. Do I put down the information of the rifle I'm trying to turn into an SBR and am submitting the eform for?

Or should I have nothing there because currently nothing is on the trust, and add in the rifle after my SBR is approved?

Dicks Sports in Columbia does not sell firearmss.

I think I remember that dicks sports had a firearm section in columbia a few years back. I went there yesterday and they do not sell firearms anymore. They do not even take orders off of their website and have it delieverd to their store. Dont really care that i have to take my business elsewhere, but it seemed pretty strange that Dicks in MC would have guns and Dicks in HC does not and cannot even order it for you.

Have You Seen My Catalytic Converter?

Imagine my surprise when I got to my shop this morning, jumped into my work truck, cranked it up to hear the roar a Sherman tank. At first I thought, well, that old muffler has finally given up the ghost (1998 original factory muffler). So, I got out to survey the damage and so see if it would make it to my mechanic's shop around the corner. That's when I realized there was something missing. Someone had gone under my truck and sawn off the CC along with the Y pipe and snipping the sensor wires.:sad20: Thank God for rechargeable sawsalls, I guess? When I talked to my mechanic moments later, he told me I was the second call he'd gotten this morning of this nature.

I thought I'd dodged a bullet in that the converters in this model truck had frequent issues requiring replacement but, having made it 17 years without any problems, I thought I was safe. Not the case. It's been a few years since I've been 'hit' so, I guess I was due. The timing really sucks, having missed over two months of work this winter but, I guess there is never a good time to get ripped off. Talk about a :kicknuts:

Great service by TomKat

I want to report awesome service by these guys.

At the HoCo show, I purchased some ammo from them. At the time, all they had was loose rounds and I had no problem buying them that way. However, Kat insisted on loading them on stripper clips and packaging them in 20 round packs. They were very busy and she went above and beyond. But her great service didn't end there. I paid cash with no receipt. I left the show in the middle of the snow, After arriving home I realized I overpaid for the ammo. I sent them an e-mail through their webpage. Within a few hours, Kat e-mailed me back stating she remembered and was willing to send me the difference by check and add $20 more back. I told her to send me ammo instead :). She shipped me ammo overnight at no charge and added extra rounds to the shipment....

Wonderful service and great honesty. I will definitely choose them as my first choice for ammo!

Remington 700 project, local smith need in Towson area

Hey everyone,

I live here in Towson and I have just purchased the Remington Model 700 SPS Tactical .308 W/16.5" Threaded 5/8x24 Barrel, with Hogue Overmold Ghillie Green Stock ITEM #: 047700855387

I have the following items:

Wyatt's Outdoors Trigger Guard and Detachable Magazine Assembly Remington 700 BDL Short Action

Bell and Carlson Medalist M40 Varmint/Tactical Rifle Stock Remington 700 BDL Short Action

Primary Arms® New 4-14X44 FFP Scope with Patented ACSS

With 20 MOA Rail Base and rings

And finally a Witt machine muzzle break

So with all of this purchased I just want to goto a shop here locally and have it put together professionally. I feel confident I could do it myself but with this much money spent, why take the chance. Let the professionals handle it.

Anyone know of a good shop locally that could do the work that you could recommend. I know its not alot of work but I would like to give the work to a local company that is close to my house.

MSP being ridiculous about my CCW app.

Long and short for those who haven't seen my other posts, I am self-employed(Realtor). They want the brokerage whom I am affiliated with to write a letter that states they "want" me to be armed while working and affiliated with this broker. The brokerage will not permit my manager to sign such a letter and I completely understand why. I am furious as I meet all of the "G&S" reasons and my interviewing trooper said I looked like a standard case for them.

IT'S ON!

Anyone have an Octane 45 or 9 in stock?

I've checked with a few shops and haven't had much luck. A TiRant would be fine too, but my understanding is that there isn't a fixed barrel mount that will adapt to 5/8-24. Seems that SilencerCo sells one for the Octane. If I'm wrong, please let me know. My intention is to run this on my 9mm AR and 300blk (subsonic only) pistol.

Thanks.

Anyone have an Octane 45 or 9 in stock?

A sincere thank you

Thanks again Chuck, It always feels good spending my time and money at your shop.

Looking forward to seeing (and probably buying) some of the new inventory you've got coming :D

A sincere thank you

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015’’.

SEC. 2. RECIPROCITY FOR THE CARRYING OF

CERTAIN CONCEALED FIREARMS.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Chapter 44 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 926C the following:

§926D. Reciprocity for the carrying of cer
tain concealed firearms
(a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any provision of the law of any State or political subdivision thereof to the contrary—
(1) an individual who is not prohibited by Federal law from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm, and who is carrying a government-issued photographic identification document and a valid license or permit which is issued pursuant to the law of a State and which permits the individual to carry a concealed firearm, may possess or carry a concealed handgun (other than a machinegun or destructive device) that has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce in any State other than the State of residence of the individual that—

(A) has a statute that allows residents of the State to obtain licenses or permits to carry concealed firearms; or

(B) does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms by residents of the State for lawful purposes; and

(2) an individual who is not prohibited by Federal law from possessing, transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm, and who is carrying a government-issued photographic identification document and is entitled and not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm in the State in which the individual resides otherwise than as described in paragraph (1), may possess or carry a concealed handgun (other than a machinegun or destructive device) that has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce in any State other than the State of residence of the individual that—

(A) has a statute that allows residents of the State to obtain licenses or permits to carry concealed firearms; or

(B) does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms by residents of the State for lawful purposes.

(b) CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS.—The possession or carrying of a concealed handgun in a State under this section shall be subject to the same conditions and limitations, except as to eligibility to possess or carry, imposed by or under Federal or State law or the law of a political subdivision of a State, that apply to the possession or carrying of a concealed handgun by residents of the State or political subdivision who are licensed by the State or political subdivision to do so, or not prohibited by the State from doing so.

(c) UNRESTRICTED LICENSE OR PERMIT.—In a State that allows the issuing authority for licenses or permits to carry concealed firearms to impose restrictions on the carrying of firearms by individual holders of such licenses or permits, an individual carrying a concealed handgun under this section shall be permitted to carry a concealed handgun according to the same terms authorized by an unrestricted license of or permit issued to a resident of the State.

(d) RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to preempt any provision of State law with respect to the issuance of licenses or permits to carry concealed firearms..

(b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of sections for chapter 44 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 926C the following:

‘‘926D. Reciprocity for the carrying of certain concealed firearms.’’.

(c) SEVERABILITY.—Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, if any provision of this Act, or any amendment made by this Act, or the application of such provision or amendment to any person or circumstance is held to be unconstitutional, this Act and amendments made by this Act and the application of such provision or amendment to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

(d) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by this Act shall take effect 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act.

This is identical to previous attempts except for one big modification (highlighted above): the language appears to allow those in Constitutional Carry states to carry in non-CC states via nothing but a government ID - no carry permit required.

Check out the differences between para 1 and para 2 - the second para is directly written for residents in Arizona, Vermont, Alaska, etc. and would create a scenario where they could carry in MD with nothing more than a driver's license or passport or...whatever other valid state ID they have.

Interesting update, and they still have opportunity to attach this to upcoming must-sign bills. Not sure that will happen - they seem to be giving up everything else lately.

EDIT: I just looked at the text of H.R. 923 and it is identical. That's the House cross-file.
