Whitney Wolverine finally comes home

-Paperwork finally cleared on the Whitney Wolverine I found in a PA estate auction. A between the PA 01 and my MD 01 it cost me an additional $140, a serious reminder why having a 03 and working with dealers who will honor it is such a big deal (PA dealer, chosen by the auction house, would not honor my 03). But I got the Wolverine for a good enough price that the extra hit didn't discourage me.

-What I have is a Wolverine built in Aug. 1957 in the original box with original user manual (one sheet of paper!). Sadly the box suffered from poor storage, perhaps kept in an attic. But the pistol is in very good condition with just a tiny bit of edge wear. Very lightly used. It is surprisingly light and points very well. Certainly not a High Standard or Colt Woodsman but I can certainly see the allure. I'd bet it's a fun plinker.

-The magazine has an interesting feature: a hole in the follower to insert a .22 lr round to act as a loading tool. Rear sight is also unique in that it's a piece of curved sheet metal riding in a pair of slots in the sight base. Windage adj. only. Front sight is fixed. Barrel nut design was lifted straight from the German MP44.

-These routinely retailed for $39.95 back in the late 50s. Today you'll have to open your wallet to the tune of about $700 and up to get one with prices having climbed significantly in the last 3-5 years. Will have to poke about and see if anyone ever tooled a leather holster for them.
