Utah Concealed Carry Non-Resident Permit and Maryland Confusion

vendredi 10 avril 2015

A Utah permit holder can legally carry concealed in DE, VA, and WV through reciprocity. Of course this does not apply within Maryland. I'm more interested in the legality of transporting a handgun (properly locked per federal law) TO a state where it is legal to carry FROM one's residence in Maryland.

Transporting in a vehicle for the purpose of concealed carry in another state is not one of the exemptions to transport in Maryland. But it seems that concealed carry in one of these neighboring states is a legal activity. Comparable to transporting firearms when flying...you have to get to an from the airport, after all.

Confused! I've had some responses on another forum that consider this scenario stretching or using a loophole in MD law, but I do intend to carry out of state where permitted, just don't want to be in Maryland hot water for exercising my out of state privileges.
